Buteyko of Hunterdon

Over four decades Russian Professor Konstantin Buteyko developed a programme of breathing to significantly reverse symptoms in a number of respiratory disorders including asthma.

The Buteyko of Hunterdon program is taught according to the standards and method of the Buteyko Clinic of Moscow.

Dr. Buteyko's method has been recognised by the Russian government since 1983 and forms part of medical training at Russian Universities.

The method is now accepted and reimbursed as an effective alternative treatment for asthma by the British National Health Service.

Clinical evidence is compelling that the method is very effective in many cases, providing relief without the side effects associated with asthma and allergy medications.

The Buteyko of Hunterdon Buteyko training program starts with a free one-hour group workshop in which we introduce the method and assess your condition. If you decide to proceed you can join a scheduled class or book an individual or family consultation.

Small children can be helped successfully by the method. Special play exercises like running and hopping are used. Learning the method between the ages of eight and twelve can often obviate the need for orthodontic treatment later on.  The parent must be present at each class, and will learn and practice the method as an adult.

This workshop introduces the Buteyko Method and provides tools to allow you to assess your own issues and requirements. It explains the program of classes and the benefits that can realistically be achieved.

The classes are taught to small groups of no more than 6 people. This enables sharing of information, experiences, support and individual tuition. The series consists of six 90-minute by-appointment workshops:

• Beginner Workshop: Each person is taught the basics of the Asthma Care program. Each Saturday 11:15am - 12:45pm
• Intermediate Workshop: More in-depth topics, coaching and and review of progress. Prerequisite: Beginner Workshop. Each Saturday 2:00pm - 3:30pm 
• Advanced Workshop: Tailored to the needs of the attendees. Prerquisite: Completion of at least two Intermediate Workshops.  Each Saturday 3:45pm - 5:15pm

Normal sequence is Beginner Workshop and two Intermediate Workshops on consecutive Saturdays, with three follow-up sessions (Intermediate or Advanced) within the next 12 months. Total cost of the series is $250 plus 7% NJST

When it is not possible to attend a scheduled class, individual or family counseling can be arranged. These sessions are generally one-hour duration. Home visits are also possible.

Individual or Family Consultation is billed at $100 / hour.  Travel time for a home visit is billed at $50 / hour. (All charges plus 7% NJST)

Buteyko Training increases your tolerance for CO2, helps control your breathing and strengthens the diaphragm. The following benefits for singers have been observed (Linda Lonseth, Buteyko and Singing):

• Breath control and higher CO2 levels help control performance anxiety

The total cost of the program is $250 plus 7% NJST. This includes:

1. Six 90-minute workshops with no more than 6 people
2. Extensive training manual
3. Children receive a fully illustrated story book containing breathing exercises (parent attends free)
4. Twelve months follow up support by telephone, email and workshops

You continue taking your preventer medication as prescribed by your doctor. Over time, as your condition improves; your doctor will revaluate your medication.

With correct application of the Buteyko method, your preventer medication will reduce on average by 50% within three to six months. This reduction should continue with time.

Our guarantee is that if, 3 months after completing the Core Program of three scheduled workshps, you do not experience a substantial improvement in your condition; you may attend an Advanced Workshop at no extra charge.

If, after attending the Advanced Workshop and practising the breathing exercises for one month you have not experienced a substantial improvement in your condition, you will receive a full refund on the cost of the Program.

The Medical Disclaimer document defines the terms under which Buteyko of Hunterdon agrees to provide Buteyko Breathing Training or related services or goods.

The General Privacy Policy document defines the policy under which Butayko of Hunterdon will collect and safeguard any personal data obtained in conjunction with Buteyko training provided.

It is applicable to all Buteyko of Hunterdon clients.

The Children's Privacy Protection Policy document is an addendum to the General Privacy Policy and defines the additional safeguards to be provided to children under thirteen in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998.

It is applicable for the parent or guardian of a minor under thirteen years old.

Take Exit 24 off I-78 and turn left at the bottom of the ramp. Proceed to junction of Route 22 and turn right (West). Proceed West approximately 1-1/2 miles.
